"You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." - Kahlil Gibran

... Somebody could really take notice to how Kahlil Gibran is really passionate and faithful about how material items can't fix things and make people happy. It all comes down to giving your time, giving your feelings and opinions, giving your honesty and sharing your soul with those around you who care. Human nature when they see someone suffering is to try and comfort and make this person realize they aren't alone. Giving them materialistic things is not going to make anything go away; it's simply the company of one and the realization that they aren't alone at all. Materialistic items can only take your level of happiness so far and beyond that, it is only the power of relationship between one another that can really accomplish true happiness. In some cases, giving up something tangible to someone struggling can seem like that takes a lot of empathy and really means a lot in today's society, but when you think about it, that is really disappointing. Long ago, when luxury items weren't around, the support, comfort and company of people is what we all relied on, and it worked. Now a days, without bribery or the technology that we use as a crutch, many people can't see past those things to find happiness. All in all, it really takes time, personal and emotional effort to really show empathy and prove that you do care and are willing to give something of yourself to succeed in making someone else happy...
